This record documents arrests, charges and convictions reported by courts, law enforcement agencies and news organizations. Every statement is tied to a cited source with an archived copy. A charge is an accusation, not proof of guilt; a person charged is presumed innocent unless convicted. Solve the Case does not allege that this person committed any offense beyond what the cited records state, and this record is not a suggestion that the person is connected to any unsolved case. How records are built, corrected and removed.
Summary of the record
Charles Frederick Albright was born August 10, 1933, in Amarillo, Texas, and died August 22, 2020, aged 87. He was charged with the murders of four women (Rhonda Bowie, Mary Lou Pratt, Susan Peterson, and Shirley Williams) who were killed between 1988 and 1991 in Dallas, Texas. He was convicted of only one murder and charges in the other cases were dropped due to lack of evidence. Albright was incarcerated in the John Montford Psychiatric Unit in Lubbock, Texas, until his death in 2020.
Documented Arrests, Charges and Convictions
Dispositions are shown exactly as the cited records report them. Pending charges are updated when a court acts; a record with no remaining conviction or pending charge is removed from the site.

Mary Lou Pratt, 33, a Caucasian well-known sex worker in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, was found dead in December 1990, wearing only a t-shirt and bra. She had been shot in the back of the head with a .44 Magnum, as well as being badly beaten. Prosecutors considered dropping one of four murder cases against Albright (Rhonda Bowie) because witnesses say he was at a softball tournament in New Mexico when the 1988 killing occurred in Dallas.

In February 1991, the authorities came across the dead body of 27-year-old sex worker Susan Peterson on the same road where Mary was found. Apart from being shot in the head, chest, and stomach, her eyeballs were surgically removed. The charges he faced for the murders of other women were later dropped because the prosecution did not have enough evidence to prove the same.

Shirley Williams, an African-American sex worker, was found dead, lying near an elementary school in March 1991. A waitress found Williams' nude body propped up against a curb. Her eyes had been removed, just like the previous two victims. She had facial bruises and a broken nose, and had been shot in the face and through the top of her head. On December 18, 1991, the jury deliberated and found him guilty only of the murder of Shirley Williams.
