Custody record at the facility
Sentenced to life imprisonment without parole or commutation in March 2022; original death sentence imposed March 20, 2004, vacated November 20, 2014.
This record documents arrests, charges and convictions reported by courts, law enforcement agencies and news organizations. Every statement is tied to a cited source with an archived copy. A charge is an accusation, not proof of guilt; a person charged is presumed innocent unless convicted. Solve the Case does not allege that this person committed any offense beyond what the cited records state, and this record is not a suggestion that the person is connected to any unsolved case. How records are built, corrected and removed.
Summary of the record
Dale Wayne Eaton was convicted in 2004 of the first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, and aggravated robbery of an 18-year-old woman in Wyoming in 1988. The victim was kidnapped, raped, and murdered; her body was found in the North Platte River. Eaton was originally sentenced to death in 2004, but his death sentence was vacated in 2014 due to inadequate legal representation. He was re-sentenced to life without parole in 2022. Eaton is currently incarcerated at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington.
