This record documents arrests, charges and convictions reported by courts, law enforcement agencies and news organizations. Every statement is tied to a cited source with an archived copy. A charge is an accusation, not proof of guilt; a person charged is presumed innocent unless convicted. Solve the Case does not allege that this person committed any offense beyond what the cited records state, and this record is not a suggestion that the person is connected to any unsolved case. How records are built, corrected and removed.
Summary of the record
Paul Durousseau is a serial killer convicted of the first-degree murder and sexual battery of 24-year-old Tyresa Mack in Jacksonville, Florida on July 26, 1999. Durousseau was initially sentenced to death in December 2007, but this sentence was overturned by the Florida Supreme Court in 2017 due to constitutional violations, and he was resentenced to life in prison without parole in December 2021. He was arrested in February 2003 and charged with five counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of five additional Jacksonville women killed between December 2002 and February 2003, but those murder charges were dropped by prosecutors. He is suspected of murdering seven young women total between 1997 and 2003, including two victims who were pregnant. He operated as a taxi driver and security guard.
