Denise Holly Dorfman was last seen on February 9, 1980, in San Francisco, California. She left her apartment at the intersection of Lake Street and 22nd Avenue to run a short errand, possibly to purchase cigarettes at a nearby store. She was reported missing after failing to show up for her job at the University of San Francisco. On February 12, 1980, the secretary of Employee Relations at the university received a call from someone claiming to be Dorfman, stating they were taking a leave of absence. However, it remains unclear whether the caller was actually Dorfman. She has never been heard from again. Her apartment was discovered unlocked with the lights on, her purse, and money inside. There was no indication of forced entry or a struggle.
