His family didn't report him missing until 1999, about seven years after he was last seen. His family did not notify the Marshall Police Department of his disappearance until 1999, when his relatives stated Riley had not been in contact with them since 1992. There are six active missing person cases, considered open investigations by the Marshall Police Department, as detectives have conducted years of follow-up attempts to bring them home or provide closure to their families. Investigators have collected DNA samples, which are submitted to the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, from the closest family members of each individual missing.
