Her mother had been planning to press charges against male Hispanic migrant workers for providing her with drugs and alcohol and having sexual contact with her.

Lakiesha has never been heard from since her disappearance. The Marshall Police Department has maintained an active investigation as one of six open missing person cases. Detectives have conducted years of follow-up attempts to bring closure to the family. DNA samples from family members have been submitted to the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and entered into a nationwide database for comparison with unidentified bodies and skeletal remains.
