Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On the evening of November 15, 2002, Patricia Duncan watched a film with her family and went to bed. Sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on November 16, she left her home at 81 Main Street, Buckie, during a terrible storm. She took no clothes or belongings except a brown sheepskin jacket, a pack of cigarettes, and her lighter. She was wearing black pants and black shoes. Her disappearance was completely out of character—the family had no indication anything was wrong and she had no known financial stresses or mental health concerns. The last person to see her was her daughter Louise, who said goodnight, expecting to see her mother in the morning.
Additional Details:
Patricia Duncan was a devoted mother of seven children and grandmother of eleven. She was part of the local amateur dramatics group and shared hobbies with her husband George, including a fascination with cowboys and the Old West. She had been a child minder, foster parent, and helped care for her mother-in-law who had Alzheimer's disease, while also managing the books for her husband's steel working business. Immediately upon discovering her missing, the family contacted police. More than 30 police officers conducted a full search of the area, with tracker dogs, an underwater search team, and the coastguard all called in to aid the search, but they found no trace of her. In April 2009, her husband George reported a possible sighting after watching a television news report, and Grampian Police investigated the footage and discussed it with the family, but she remained classified as a missing person. The family received numerous claimed sightings over the years from locations as far away as Malta, but none have led to finding her. Despite the case being featured in media appeals including the STV programme 'Missing Mums' and coverage on multiple podcasts, the case remains unsolved.
