Summary:

In January 2010, construction workers near the site of an abandon parking lot, found the skeletalized remains of a woman, wrapped in a blue carpet. The unknown woman eventually became known as the “Angel of the Meadow”, as she was found near an area called “Angel Meadows”. This was in the Manchester City Centre, a high traffic business district in Manchester, UK. However, the spot at which the woman and carpet were found was not a highly visible area (by a fence in the parking lot).

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Recovery:

On the 25th January 2010, a set of remains was discovered at the site of a former car park located between Angel Street, Dantzic Street and Miller Street in Manchester. The area was known as Angel Meadow, and the name given to the unidentified was 'The Angel of the Meadows.' A postmortum revelaed that the female victim had suffered a fractured neck, clavicle and jaw. Detectives have now also revealed that she may have been sexually assaulted and was naked from the waist down. The police initially believed that the woman was aged 18–35 when she died. The date of her death was identified as the 1970s or 80s. Police believe the woman was born between 1950 and 1954. If you have any information you should call police on 0161 856 5978 or 101. Reports can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Additional Details:

The woman's body was found alongside a green pinafore dress with large buttons, a jumper, blue bra and stiletto shoes (only one was found), and a Guinness sign. Three different carpets - orange, blue and dark blue - were also found. A number of items were found with or near the body: a plastic Guinness measuring chart from the late 1960s, an orange patterned carpet, dark blue and blue carpets, tights and a handbag. One of the carpet pieces which covered the body was thought by police to have been removed from a Ford Cortina and featured a hole cut for a gear stick.
