Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
On the night of August 6, 2016, Calvin Riley was walking with a friend near the water's edge at Aquatic Park. As they were engaged in playing Pokémon Go, Riley was struck by a bullet. Initial reports varied slightly regarding the exact location of the wound, with some stating it was in the back and others mentioning the chest or torso. However, the consistent detail across official sources remains the north-to-northwest trajectory of the bullet. Riley's mother, Kariann, recounted that her son was turning while playing the game and had his back to the shooter, who she believed was positioned at a higher elevation. This account aligns with the bullet trajectory and suggests a possible vantage point for the assailant. Riley's friend, who was a short distance away, heard the gunshot and witnessed him collapse. This friend became a critical initial witness for the investigation.
